PE Structural Engineering Exam Computer-Based Testing (CBT) Transition

NCEES Chief Officer of Examinations, Jason J. Gamble, P.E. gave a presentation on the PE Structural exam transition to computer-based testing (CBT). The PE Structural exam will be administered in pencil-and-paper format for the last time in October 2023. It is scheduled to launch in its computer-based format in 2024. The goal of this presentation was to provide a brief history of the PE Structural Exam, present its new format, compare it to the existing format, and provide attendees an opportunity to inquire and ask questions.

The Rapidly Evolving Policy Landscape for Embodied Carbon

Carbon Leadership Forum staff (Meghan Lewis and Megan Kalsman) gave a brief overview of embodied carbon and the structural engineers’ unique role in measuring and reducing embodied carbon, focusing on the landscape and outlook for policy action in 2023 in the United States. The presentation includes an overview of the embodied carbon components of the Inflation Reduction Act and other federal programs, as well as the state and local policies that continue to drive progress and set the precedent for broader action.

Owner’s Perspective on Tackling Scope 3 Embodied Carbon Emissions

SE 2050 Commitment Program – 2nd Year Updates
The SE 2050 Commitment Program is about to turn two years old and there are several exciting updates to share. After nearly two years we now have close to 100 firms signed up and have published over 65 of their Embodied Carbon Action Plans (ECAPS). Firms have contributed nearly 200 of their projects embodied carbon data to our database. The momentum is strong and we’re looking for your firm to begin to contribute. Will you join us?
This presentation provides highlights of the embodied carbon action plan that committed firms must produce upon signing up and provides insights into the lessons learned from the committed firms. The numerous resources being developed for structural engineers were presented. Finally, this presentation discusses how SE 2050 and NCSEA are working to educate structural engineers on strategies for reducing embodied carbon and discuss how firms can commit.
