Volunteering for a Committee

NCSEA has a variety of committees that work to further the association’s mission to constantly improve the level of standard of practice of the structural engineering profession throughout the United States and to provide an identifiable resource for those needing communication with the profession.

NCSEA SEA members may apply for committee positions throughout the year using the online Volunteer Application. Most committees admit new members on a rolling basis while others add members only once per year. Once submitted, the application will be reviewed to confirm Member Organization/SEA membership and then forwarded to the committee chair(s) for review. Please expect a response within 30 days.

To be an NCSEA Committee Member, you must be a member of a SEA.

There are several types of committee members: (not all committees have these members) 

  • Voting Members: Individuals who have strong knowledge or expertise.
  • Corresponding Members: Individuals directly associated with their SEA (endorsed by their Member Organization).
  • Observers: Liaison appointees of Building Code and Standards Development Organizations, researchers, and individuals from NCSEA member organizations who are neither voting members nor corresponding members.
  • Industry Representative:  Is an individual from a non-engineering firm (companies providing supplies or services to structural engineers).
  • Secretary: Some committees may need a Young Member to act as a Secretary for the committee. No expertise is needed, but a desire to learn from a diverse group of people while building your resume – accepting tasks such as taking meeting minutes and assisting with the committee’s Basecamp presence.

 

The Committee or Subcommittee Chair for which you are applying will work with you to determine your type of committee membership.

Basic Education Committee

The Basic Education Committee seeks to determine and promote the core curriculum that should be offered to, and required of, structural engineering students.
